At the start of June, to kick off National Volunteers’ Week, Shaun Curtis ran a Beach Sports Day event on North Beach to get locals (especially young people) interested in sports and being active.
As a young person running a local wellbeing event, Big Local North Cleethorpes were keen to support the event. Shaun asked for some financial assistance to run the event and BLNC agreed to this. In the end Shaun needed around £165 for supplies, equipment and food.
The weather was good and the event went well. You can read more of the story from the day and see the photos on the story here on the VANEL blog.
On the day Moon on the Water was good enough to support the event too by ensuring they were open to provide toilet facilities whilst they also opened to provide food to passers by too.
Staff and volunteers from CYC The Hangout also popped down to the event, and Shaun had a small team of volunteers to help him too (it was Volunteers’ Week after all).
Shaun is also part of the IGNITE team at VANEL and IGNITE are very active at the moment in Cleethorpes as part of other BLNC supported work. IGNITE is all about giving young people opportunities to come up with projects that they might need support (or funding) for and that can have a positive influence on the community. So if you’re aged 16-30 then you might want to contact IGNITE (via VANEL or BLNC) to discuss your ideas.
Well done Shaun for the beach sports event!
(The small bits of outdoor sports and games equipment that Shaun purchased for this one-off event have now also been donated to CYC The Hangout Youth Group for their ongoing use. Thanks again Shaun)
