During 2019 Big Local North Cleethorpes provided financial support to two local community safety initiatives – the Blue Lights Brigade (BLB) Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Safe & Well check programme led by Humberside Fire and Rescue and again, supported by volunteers from BLB.
Now, as the Covid-19 health emergency takes hold, these programmes and the volunteers who support them are once again on hand to support Cleethorpes and North East Lincolnshire.
The Safe and Well van is being used as transport and to date 150+ volunteers have stepped forward to support BLB in supporting people isolating or in need within the community.
Steve Jones heads up the Blue Lights Brigade programme through the newly formed Community Interest Company and gives this update:
“I had a conversation late last week with the N E Lincs local authority and The Blue Lights Brigade team is now being used to register and coordinate volunteers.
An online registration form has now been created – https://www.bluelightsbrigade.co.uk/register-to-help—covid-19
This went live in the middle of last week and to date we have 167 registered volunteers. These volunteers are split into two levels:
- Standard volunteer (other than registration no further checks done, these volunteers can do basic non safeguarding type roles)
- Enhanced volunteers (already hold a current DBS certificate. BLB also request a copy of a photo ID such as driving licence, passport and a recent bill or similar that has their current address on it. These volunteers are then able to engage in further activities such as the delivery of medication and if necessary, handling cash)
BLB have created a data base that holds the volunteers in their ward areas and thus gives the strategic group a bank of volunteers who are able to be used.”
Please visit the BLB website at www.bluelightsbrigade.co.uk to find out more about the programme or to get involved.
Thanks from the whole community to the volunteers through BLB or other initiatives who are helping to keep people safe.
