THE CYCLE HUB
Redevelopment of the station ticket office into a Cycle Hub for Cleethorpes with investment from partners including Big Local
Big Local North Cleethorpes is supporting the initiative to redevelop the old ticket office at Cleethorpes Railway Station into a Cycle Hub.
The project has been planned for many years whilst partners, funding and permission all comes together, and the work to start the conversion officially got underway at the beginning of 2018.
The old ticket office will be renovated and will open up as a Cycle Hub in a bid to encourage more people “explore the coast” on two wheels. The new Cleethorpes Cycle Hub will be operated by the group behind the successful Grimsby Cycle Hub, which offers secure cycle storage, cycle repairs, bike hire and local information as well as other community based cycle activities in and around the borough, and this model will be replicated in Cleethorpes.
The commitment of funds from Big Local North Cleethorpes is just part of wider funding commitments from the National Station Improvement Programme, Department for Transport’s Sustainable Travel Access fund, North East Lincolnshire Council’s Capital Programme, Coastal Communities Fund and a Railway Heritage Trust grant. But the team at Big Local have been behind this project since the outset, have had money allocated to the project in our Community Plans and are really pleased to now be able to help support the project as it gets underway.
The project will see a complete restoration to the former ticket office – including the retention of some period features – to form a dedicated cycle storage area, fully equipped workshop and office facilities.
Janine Walker, managing director at Grimsby Cycle Hub, said: “We hope that the new Hub in Cleethorpes will encourage more people to explore the resort by bike.
“Visitors arriving at the station by train or at the nearby Grant Street car park will be able to pop into the Hub and pick up a bike for the duration of their stay and explore the coast and countryside around North East Lincolnshire on two wheels.”
The overall redevelopment project is led by North East Lincolnshire Council working in partnership with ENGIE and the project is supported by Network Rail, Transpennine Express, the Railway Heritage Trust, Big Local North Cleethorpes and the team at Grimsby Cycle Hub.

Big Local North Cleethorpes have committed a significant sum of money recently to support a major development project in Cleethorpes bringing the old Cleethorpes Station ticket office back into use as a “Cycle Hub”. The project has been a long time in planning, commits funding from many partners and is a great opportunity to enhance Cleethorpes.
